Privacy Policy
At Diskus, we prioritize your privacy. As an open-source and self-hostable project, our approach to data privacy is divided into two parts: our marketing website/demo, and the Diskus software itself.
1. Diskus Software (Self-Hosted)
Diskus is a self-hosted application designed with privacy in mind. When you download and run Diskus on your own infrastructure:
- No Telemetry: We do not collect any telemetry, usage statistics, tracking data, or crash reports.
- Data Ownership: You have complete ownership and control over all data, including user comments, profiles, and configurations.
- No “Phoning Home”: The software does not communicate with any servers controlled by the Diskus developers or any third-party marketing services.
If you are interacting with a Diskus widget hosted by a third party, please refer to their respective Privacy Policy, as they are the data controllers for that instance.
2. Diskus Website & Demo
This section applies strictly to your usage of our official documentation site (diskus.pages.dev), the live demo, and our managed API for demonstration purposes.
Information We Collect
When you interact with our website or demo widget, we may collect:
- Demo Content: Comments, usernames, and any text you voluntarily post on our live demo.
- Basic Analytics: Standard, anonymized website analytics (such as page views, browser type, and referring sites) to help us understand our traffic and improve our documentation.
- Authentication Data: If you log in to the demo dashboard, we process authentication tokens temporarily.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected on our website solely to:
- Maintain and improve our project documentation.
- Ensure the stability and security of the demo environment.
- Demonstrate the capabilities of the Diskus widget.
Cookies and Local Storage
Our demo dashboard and widget may use minimal cookies or local storage to manage user sessions, authentication states (e.g., JWT tokens), and UI preferences (such as dark mode). We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising purposes.
Data Security and Retention
We implement standard security measures to protect the demo environment. However, because the demo is public:
- Do not share sensitive personal information on the public demo widget.
- Demo databases are periodically wiped or reset. We do not guarantee the retention of any comments or data posted on the demo site.
3. Third-Party Services
While the self-hosted software is standalone, our official website (diskus.pages.dev) relies on third-party infrastructure:
- Hosting: Our static site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may log basic network traffic for security and performance routing.
- Demo API & Database: Our live demo API is hosted on Railway.app.
These providers have their own privacy policies governing the raw network data they process.
4. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our project evolves. We will notify you of any changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
